Lesego Maloka is the artistic force behind Pone Creatives. The first things you notice about Lesego when you meet her are her broad smile and infectious positivity. This spirit has been translated into her colourful, Pop Art textile designs that reflect a bold and modern African aesthetic.
Born in Mpumalanga, South Africa, Lesego’s interest in textile design started at an early age. She credits her grandmother, who was a self-employed seamstress, with giving her an entrepreneurial spirit, a lifelong love of textiles and a passion for creating beautiful things. She went on to study Graphic Design, work in retail, and ultimately launch her company, Pone, two years ago in Johannesburg. Pone uses a combination of digital printing and jacquard weaving techniques that allows for the different designs to be easily mixed and matched on a variety of interior products. These designs have garnered Pone a lot of attention, and Lesego has been widely featured on notable platforms such as Visi Magazine, eNCA and Top Billing – firmly cementing her position as a rising design star on the continent.
This local relevance that still appeals to a broader global audience, is what brought Pone and Africanismo together. We’ve been collaborating since late 2017 and are very excited about this initial product launch on our website. We hope our growing community, like ourselves, are continually inspired by Africa’s sense of fun and optimism – regardless of where in the world they find themselves.
