I first met Vicki and Pablo years ago at a party. Even back then, it was immediately clear that there was something very cool and different about them. They are both experienced entrepreneurs who believe in showcasing the best and most beautiful aspects of our continent, all while developing local manufacturing skills. This passion and energy resulted in the launch of their brand, African Renaissance, five years ago.
The name African Renaissance was chosen specifically because it represented “African people and nations, overcoming the current challenges confronting the continent and achieving cultural, scientific and economic renewal”. This hopefulness, energy and vibrancy is evident in all the brand’s designs. The African Renaissance collection comprises of clothing and accessories, all of which are made from their exclusive signature fabric, and are wearable pieces of art. The art on the fabric was created over thirteen years and captures the effect of beads by using painting and metal threading. So you get the look of traditional African beading, without the maintenance and care required of intricately beaded items. This unique fabric has garnered significant local and international attention and has even made an appearance at an event the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge hosted in London.
Africanismo is extremely proud to be featuring their collection of handbags in our store. We love African Renaissance for many reasons, but feel a special kinship with these entrepreneurs, who like Africanismo, are working to empower and develop other African entrepreneurs. Different and cool never looked so good!
