Pone: Ndebele Notepad

The pattern on this notebook is inspired by the Ndebele people of Southern Africa.

The Ndebele form part of the Nguni tribes, which represent nearly two thirds of South Africa’s African population. The creation of art has always been an important identifying characteristic of the Ndebele. Apart from its aesthetic appeal it has a cultural significance that serves to reinforce their distinctive identity.  The characteristic symmetry, proportion and straight edges of Ndebele decorations can be found on the walls of houses, in beadwork and other traditional items.

This lined notepad was made entirely in South Africa. The fabric covering the book was created by local designer Pone Creative, and then digitally printed onto a cotton fabric. The fabric was then carefully cut into the appropriate size and each book was assembled by hand. No two notepads are alike and every single one is one-of-a-kind. This product embodies the passion, creativity and ingenuity of its creators.

At least 10 different people were involved in the creation of this product.
